Applications open for Research Project and York Policy Unit

We are now opening applications for two fantastic projects. The Research Project team will be a group of students who are tasked with answering ‘To what extent are students at York politically engaged.’ This is thus a great opportunity to gain experience in carrying out relatively long term large scale research, not to mention answer a really interesting question. Once completed and published it is hoped the report will be used by others, this is thus a slight change to our normal work as this will not involve policy formulation, focusing more on simply putting the information ‘out there.’The team will be relatively autonomous, and able to decide its own plan of action, but one would expect some sort of survey coupled with focus groups may be the taken route.

To apply email thinktank@yusu.org with the following information:
Your name
Your course and year of study
Any relevant experience you have
Why you would like to be part of the research project
Whether you would be interested in leading the team and if so why you think you would be good at this role
Deadline: January 26th

The second new project is the York Policy Unit. This will be very much focused on policy, and more specifically policy for the York area that has a realistic chance of implementation. We have arranged for Professor Martin Smith, policy expert of the University of York Politics department to assist the York Policy Unit, it is thus a brilliant chance to improve the local area, as well as learn a lot yourself. There are the roles of ‘Head of’ – Health/Education/Criminal Justice/ Environment/Technology policy, who will be tasked with writing a policy proposal within their selected area. If you have an idea that does not fit into one of these brackets then do get in touch, it may be possible to expand to other topics if we feel the idea is viable. There will also be York Policy Unit ‘team members,’ who will be expected to present a more extensive piece of work, (whether that is one policy proposal with in depth research, or multiple policy proposals) on topic(s) of their choice.

To apply email thinktank@yusu.org with the following information:
Your name
Your course and year of study
Which role(s) you would like to apply for
Any relevant experience you have in terms of the policy area or policy in general
Why you would like the role
Deadline: January 26th

If you are interested in multiple roles across both projects that is absolutely fine, just make a note of it on your application email (as well as an order of preference if there is one!). Successful candidates will be contacted early week 4. If you have any questions then feel free to email us.
