Welcome to the York Student Think Tank

We are a student society located at the University of York. We aim to provide a productive environment for bi-partisan policy discussion and meaningful opportunities for students to gain real policy experience.

We hold weekly events which include guest speakers, panel debates and more casual in depth discussions we call Policy Labs.

We provide multiple opportunities for you to get a policy paper published: with our own journal and with the national IPPR@Universities Metis Journal. We are the only society and York able to offer work experience at the Institute for Public Policy Research, a leading think tank in London.

We also organize termly consultations which provide students with an opportunity to change campus policy and gain research/policy formulation experience at the same time.

As of 2014 we are also launching a string of exciting new projects, including the Annual Research Project where students will be able to gain experience doing a long term research project, the Policy Unit which will provide students with the opportunity to formulate policy for the local area with the assistance of Professor Martin Smith of the University of York Politics Department and the MultiMedia Project which will see YSTT dispersing its polices through online videos for the first time.

If you have a desire to enact change, are interested in public policy discussion and creation, want to work in politics, want to do something productive whilst at university or just want to chat about issues with other people over a drink, YSTT is the place for you whilst at the University of York.
